I know books speak to you differently depending on where you are in life and what your current situation is. I’ve put together a list of 5 of my favorite books to read this year NO MATTER what you’re going through in this season of life. There’s something for everyone here depending on what you’re wanting to focus on most. All 5 of these books have helped me greatly in different ways- especially in my journey of learning myself, finding myself and bettering myself. Pick one to read and let me know what you think in the comments below!
What Happened to You– Oprah Winfrey & Bruce D Perry
Amazing!! I had to put this one as number one on my list because it’s helped me on such a personal level and I know it can truly help some of you too! The conversations held in this book allowed me to better understand my childhood trauma along with trauma I’ve had as an adult. They shift the focus of the question- What’s wrong with you to What happened to you? It helps to know the reasons of why you may be acting or responding to situations a certain way and guides you to a healing process. Ever since reading this book, when someone is unkind to me or another person, I find myself wondering what happened in their childhood (or recent) to make them respond that way. Such a good read. Even if you haven’t experienced trauma yourself, read it anyway to understand the ones around you a little better.
Live On Purpose– Sadie Robertson
I wanted to add this one in here because of its daily encouragement. It’s a daily devotion on letting go of fear and focusing more on God. I don’t know about y’all but I tend to live in fear and that’s something I’ve wanted to work on on a personal level. This book is a good little added piece of my morning routine that gets me going, gets me in a good mood and ready for my day.
Living Fully– Mallory Ervin
I’ve been following Mallory for such a long time on her YouTube Channel and when I realized she was publishing a book I knew I would have to read it. I love her personality and her ‘realness’. Thankfully, for me, it was published during the hardest year of my life. She wrote this book to give us a wake up call, to shine the light on your life in order to make real changes- real changes to live more fully. That’s exactly what reading this book has done for me. It’s given me a little bit of light on days that seem so dark. Mallory is real and bold in this book and that’s what I love most. I believe more than anything, it’s the ones that are real that have guided me through this year…..the ones that have carried the light.
Bold Pursuit– Arika Hanks – BOLDY pursuing the calling God has for you.
I haven’t finished this book just yet, but I love it so far. I’ve been on a journey this year to become the woman I want to be- the woman that God has called me to be and I felt like this book was calling my name. So far, it’s bringing me clarity to what I was searching for.
Atomic Habits– James Clear- An easy and proven way to build good habits and break bad ones.
I believe this is an overall good read for learning to do better. ‘Habits are the compound interest of self improvement’. It’s the changes in the SMALL habits in your everyday life that can make the BIGGEST difference long term. If you’re looking for a good overall personal improvement book- this is for you!
